EXPHIBITION

ISABELLE VAILLANT(FR)

TANT QUE SERA…

Le Volume, Vern-sur-Seiche

Exhibition from November 12 to December 19, 2025

For around fifteen years Isabelle Vaillant has been taking photographs that are firmly anchored in her personal experiences. Her profoundly intuitive approach explores themes of memory, transmission, intimacy, childhood, identity or solitude: all the things that weave their way through the emotional fabric of our existence.

Observing her pictures, recurrent themes come up, such as childhood or solitude. Each photo is charged with emotion and reveals an artist driven by the silent introspection of human nature. She enjoys combining reality and fiction through the effects of long exposures and photographic staging. Isabelle Vaillant presents a unique poetic visual language that is profoundly moving. Her work evokes compassion, humility and respect.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Isabelle Vaillant, who recently moved to Arles, is a self-taught French photographer. Over more than twenty years she has developed a unique approach, combining photography, installation and sound work (interviews and recordings). For her first series in 1999 she turned the lens on herself. These instinctive self-portraits marked the beginning of her artistic engagement. She exhibited this work at the Galerie du Forum in Toulouse, then at the Kiyosato Museum of Photography in Japan who acquired several of her pieces. She was also selected for the Young International Photography festival in Niort in 2000. She has published several books such as Les Photos du dimanche (Filigranes, 2006). In 2024, she co-authored a poetic text Pour toi, with Elisa Le Merrer under the pen name Soeurs Ravilly. For more than twenty years, Isabelle Vaillant has also worked with vulnerable people, including adolescents in educational or medical environments, people living on the edge of society and in prison or other institutionalised settings.

Isabelle Vaillant was a winner of the GLAZ 2023 Grand Prix of portfolio readings
