“Born on this Breton farm, incredible source of imagination for my childhood games, I am the eldest and I won’t be taking on the farm.
Being subjected to “bog trotter” or “homo” for a long time, allowed me to make the move necessary to my survival. Becoming a performing visual artist and then quickly coming back to change things from the inside, imposing my presence and showing this rural world in a different light.
Transforming shame into pride.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
“Damien Rouxel grew up on the family farm. He knows the hardship, codes, tools and language of rural life. His art (photography, video, sculpture, installation and performance) aims at a reappropriation of the farm, transforming it into a playground where the animals, his parents and his sister, the machines, the tools and everything which constitutes the working environment become the décor and actors of his productions. The latter combine different axes of research such as his personal history, his family, his sexual identity, art history, monsters, myth, models, transvestism and mask. The farm becomes the theatre of the imagination playing on liberty and complexity.” (Julie Crenn, 2018).
Damien Rouxel studied art at EESAB Quimper and at the History of Art and Archaeology department at the University of Quimper.
